Mary Jo Smiley grew up in a very active country kid with 3 brothers who climbed trees, fell off bicycles and all the sorts of things that active kids like to do. By her high school years real pain was already interfering with her favorite activities like backpacking and scuba diving. Within years chronic pain and then migraines were common and began to interfere with her job as a phlebotomist at Sewickley Valley Hospital. She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and was told that nothing much could be done for her.
Say's Mary Jo: "Thankfully, I found Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy and it proved to be much more effective for me that any medication or Physical Therapy. I have not had a migraine in years and pain no longer stops me from enjoying life."
Her own healing inspired her to pursue a path to bring the same relief to others. She graduated in 1999 from The Pittsburgh School of Pain Management (http://www.painschool.com) and is a member in good standing of the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists.
Mary Jo has well over 500 hours of continuing education including: Judith Delaney's NeuroMuscular Therapy and ETPS (Electro Therapeutic Point Stimulation) In January 2006 earned her National Certification in Medical Massage). She is also a Certified Migraine Prevention Coach.
She specializes in Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy, Medical Massage and other pain management modalities in addition to massage. Specialties include non-invasive treatment for:
Treatments can often reduce or eliminate the need for medications or surgery.
If you have been hurt in an auto accident, your treatment may be covered by the auto insurance company. Health insurance seldom covers massage, although your Medical Savings Account definitely will.
Mary Jo has worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years and has taught workshops on trigger point therapy and stretching, stress management, migraine prevention and treatments for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain support groups.
